Recognition Award
Edward W. Stoller, in his role as a plant pathologist with the Urbana USDA-ARS Crop Protection Research Unit since 1965, has cooperated with the University of Illinois agronomic weed science team for 33 years. His extensive work on weed seed dormancy and factors affecting dormancy has earned him international recognition. Stoller’s contributions to the University of Illinois have been significant and numerous. He has either chaired or served on many important committees and task forces within the Department of Crop Sciences. Stoller has been influential in the lives of many students—as an adviser to 27 graduate students and 5 postdoctoral students; serving on the examination committee of over 50 other graduate students; and as a willing educator. He has also coached the undergraduate and graduate student Illinois weed science teams, winning several North Central Weed Science Society contests. Stoller has authored or co-authored 84 scientific journal articles, over half involving U of I graduate students or staff. He won the American Soybean Association Research Recognition Award in 1986 and the Weed Science Society of America Outstanding Research Award in 1996. |
