Edward
E. Springer
Edward E. Springers job description as an animal-care worker
allows for a diversity of work assignments and incorporates the additional
contingent, "other duties as assigned." The schedule is
rigorous and the work demanding, with heavy lifting, working around
unpleasant odors, and the risk of being bitten, burned, cut, kicked,
or squashed. Springers can-do attitude and efficient manner
have allowed the Edward R. Madigan Laboratory (ERML) to optimize space
utilization, detect animal illness early, conserve supplies, provide
quality animal care, and complete numerous faculty research projects
successfully.
Springers dedication to the college, faculty, and students began
in 1982 when he worked at the South Farms kennel, cattery, and poultry
farm. In 1991, he began working at ERML during the final phases of
construction, helping to conduct test incineration runs for gaining
state licensing. He was instrumental in defining operating procedures
for the new containment area and in determining what equipment would
be necessary to operate in the new building. Springer has rearranged
animal confinement areas, built and installed equipment, and helped
to maintain the high standards of animal care throughout the laboratory. |
