Brent
A. McBride
Brent A. McBride is among the top influential researchers on fatherhood
in the United States, and the funding for his research attests to
the rigor of his proposals. Not only did he begin his research on
father involvement in child rearing before it became fashionable to
see males in this role, he also has broadened his scope beyond that
of middle-class families to include low-income families and the special
challenges they face in parenting. A second major area of McBrides
research agenda addresses issues relating to parental involvement
in school-based programs for young children.
One of McBrides most unique attributes is his ability to bridge
the gap between research, theory, and practice in the fields of child
development and family studies. His sensitivity to the practical application
of research is heightened by another role he plays in the college,
that of director of the Child Development Laboratory. This facility
provides research opportunities to faculty and students at the university,
as well as quality child care for almost 100 children in the Champaign-Urbana
community. |
