Karl
E. Gardner Outstanding Undergraduate Adviser Award
Thomas
W. Fermanian
Thomas W. Fermanian has been an outstanding friend of students in
turfgrass and horticulture by helping them to refine their career
options. His philosophy for career counseling includes helping those
who might be more science-oriented to prepare for graduate studies
and assisting industry-bound students to identify their primary and
backup areas of specialization. He has been able to provide many opportunities
for the growth of students interested in turfgrass management, including
summer internships, excellent job placements, and campus research
experiences.
Fermanian has also been an outstanding adviser to undergraduate students
in other areas of horticulture. As the co-adviser of the Horticulture
Club for the past two years, he helped provide direction and leadership
and saw the club achieve national recognition when it was voted the
number one club in the United States by its parent society, the American
Society for Horticultural Science.
Fermanian has displayed the same level of intensity, enthusiasm, and
energy as the person for whom the award is namedDean Karl E.
Gardner. |
