College Faculty Award for Excellence in Extension
Aaron T. Ebata

Aaron T. Ebata has tackled the stress of today’s youth and families by creating innovative and on-target Extension programs. Considered a remarkable scholar in the area of adolescent development, his particular emphasis in both his research and his Extension work has been on adolescent stress and resilience.

The cutting-edge application of Ebata’s research to Extension’s needs has been especially apparent in his response to the Midwest flood of 1993 and his creative use of the World Wide Web. While elements of traditional Extension programming are part of the mix, he has also created websites that provide up-to-date, research-based information and programming. His U of I Extension Disaster Resources and Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN) websites support his continuing concern with disaster relief.

Whether slogging through flooded communities, providing Internet tutorials, developing websites for troubled adolescents, or encouraging faculty and graduate students to share their research with Extension educators throughout the state, Ebata understands at the deepest level what it means to aspire to excellence in his work.
