Linda L. Barenthin has been an employee of the University of Illinois for over 24 years and has faithfully served the Division of Nutritional Sciences for 14 of those years. As the only secretary, she is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the division, which includes everything from receptionist duties, sending out information to foreign and domestic applicants, and coordinating visits for seminar speakers, to planning and coordinating the annual External Advisory Committee meeting. In addition, she handles online purchasing and student appointments and, of necessity, is knowledgeable about all aspects of university policies. Barenthin’s exceptional dedication to students and faculty is noteworthy. She handles the needs of 45 faculty members and between 40 to 50 students—spread out over 9 departments and 5 colleges on the Urbana campus and 1 department at the U of I Chicago campus—with ease and cheerfulness. Barenthin also assumes a supervisory role in many divisional projects. She oversees the publication of the annual Nutritional Sciences Newsletter, and this past year she has been instrumental in revising the nutritional sciences promotional brochure and supervising the revision of the division’s website. |
